Amazing! The food was delicious. We have friends and family visit us often from around the country. Thunder and Buttons has officially been added to the places we must bring our visitors. I am always a little hesitant to try new places. I am so glad we did!!

I was visiting a friend in CS and we made our way to this place for karaoke. It, like much of CS, reminds me of smaller town midwest. It's refreshing to come to a place that doesn't scream $8 beers and screaming at your friends to be heard. Well priced beer and drinks, good karaoke (well the music track was good), and an excellent time to be had. I've been told the history of the bar is pretty entertaining as well. Feel free to ask your bartender.

Special place in my heart for T&B. We're trivia regulars on Tuesday nights and although the place may be dive-y, the food is worth it. Mac and cheese with elk chili, onions, and jalapenos. This might be my death row meal. Also if you didn't think they could stack a plate of nachos taller than you, you're wrong.

My wife and I love this place. They offer free beer after Thursday night fun runs. They are good for our community. I have to say that tonight is EXTREMELY SLOW! We ordered an hour ago and we are are still waiting. Our waitress is outstanding. We just think they must be shorthanded in the kitchen We'll be back.

What can I say, the elk chili was bomb! Fantastic! I was hooked on the flavor from the first taste. The elk is paired perfectly with the chili as far as consistency and taste. The chili is hearty and has an edgy taste-- tomato based and thick. I got the chili Mac bowl, it was Delicious. Just go to Thunder and Buttons for the chili, and life will be good.

Great service. Elk chili is fantastic!! Schnitzel sandwich is just okay. Nothing great. The lettuce wraps are really good and a large portion. The nachos are equally fantastic. I tried everything!! The service was tops as well. Nothing at all to complain about. If so, get some more elk chili!

They've got a great selection of beer on tap, a good-sized menu without it being overwhelming, and karaoke going sometimes. I love finding excuses to come here when I'm in this part of town!

Just visiting and wanted a place to watch the All Star Game. The Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Elk Chili Mac & Cheese was a hit!!! I think we left so full we thought we would eat for a week. The people we met there were friendly and the waitress and bartender could not have been friendlier. If you get the chance stop in and try the Elk Chili you can't go wrong with it.

This place is nestled in a really old building with unique architecture. The food is EXCELLENT for the prices. Their falafel sliders are the best vegetarian food in the Springs. Their hummus is also good. The service is also great. Kristin is a lovely server and bar tender. In addition to the awesome food and service, they have amazing events. Their trivia night is always a good time, as is karoake. I love going during Broncos season, when they give away legit prizes. Last year I won 2 $60 concert tickets during a game.

T and B is just a run-of-the-mill bar and there is nothing wrong with that. Food is good and drinks are drinks, what else is necessary?

Katie, our server, was wonderful but slammed tonight. Only two cooks? We love this place usually! We run with the Two Elks Running Club On Thursdays, which has great perks, but tonight the food didn't arrive for an hour after we ordered. Thankfully, Katie and company comped an awesome left hand brewing company nitro stout for the wait, and when the food arrived (grilled turkey and Havarti with raspberry chipotle jam and fish and chips) it was piping hot and delicious. Again, normally all is perfect; today's problem was the SLOW delivery. We were famished by the time the food arrived.

Visited here last Tuesday, 4/7/15 with our teenage daughter. We had Elk Chili, Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Garlic Bread. The server suggested the lettuce wraps, but I have to say they were not my favorite. Very liquidy and messy. I ended up eating them with my fork just to save myself from spilling them down my shirt! My husband said the Elk Chili was the best he'd ever had. And he lived in Virginia and Georgia so that's saying something. The best thing here is the bartender. We were seated next to some annoyingly loud 20-somethings who thought it was appropriate to drop F bombs all over the place, even though we were one booth over and a family with a 4 year old was on the other side as well. We mentioned this to our server who appropriately mentioned it to the bartender. He politely approached the table next to us and suggested they behave. Or leave. After the 20-somethings dropped a couple dozen more F bombs (mind you, this was 6 p.m., not midnight), the bartender approached them again and invited them to the exit door, which they did. He then apologized to us and told us he didn't need their kind of business anyway. We tipped the bartender, the server and the server who lost out on tips from the 20-somethings. Hey, fair is fair. Wish we'd had a better experience, but we loved the way our situation was handled and the food was pretty good.

I had to try something new off the menu and was torn between the steak sandwich special and the pork sandwich. I decided on the pork tenderloin sandwich and fries. It was very tasty, and shaved with an abundance of meat. It came with an drippings dipping sauce as well that was loaded with flavor. I'm only giving 4*'s because compared to the buffalo brat and the chili mac, it doesn't stand up. With that being said, I did enjoy it but the other dishes are some of the better meals I've had in a while.

Great little place. Very nice. Service was great. Prices are not bad. Love the location. Food really good.. Kids had chicken fingers and the quesadilla. Hubs had the elk nachos - either share or be ready to eat a lot I had the steak salad with no dressing but added avocado! So good

My fiance and I just moved here from Arizona (originally from Texas). We looked up restaurants near us on Yelp, and this place had good ratings and served burgers ( which is what we wanted). The food here is really good! After trying a sample of the ham and lentil soup/ chili, it was hard to decide what to order. The soup was probably the tastiest soup I've ever had, hands down! The chef should be proud. I went there for a burger,so I got the Buffalo burger with the mushrooms and bacon. Best burger and fries! My fiance tried my burger and said it was the best he's ever tasted. He's very picky. We also had the macaroni without the chili. Also very good. My fiance and I sat in silence while we ate, which is unlike us. Lol Normally we have a complaint or two, but I promise. ...no complaints here. Lets talk about the atmosphere. Whoever picked the music has excellent taste. Mostly obscure 80s, but it was mellow and relaxing. It felt cozy in there and we sat in a booth by the front window. I heard people walking up the stairs. We didn't go up there, but will check it out next time. We will definitely be back. Its going to be hard to find a place in Colorado Springs that will top this one.

Been a few times for lunch since I started working in Old Downtown Colorado Springs. Today I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap w/fries. Valerie took my order and brought the drinks quickly. Although the overall place was not too busy the food, for what was ordered at the table took a little longer then it had in the last few visits. Not sure why...but that is mainly what set this to 4 stars. My food arrived and the chicken and bacon were warm as they should be. The fries were also well cooked and crispy (but that's how I like them). We never had to ask for drink refills as Valerie was on top of it, which makes me believe that there was a slowdown in the kitchen today vs visits past. Overall, this is another good place for lunch in the downtown area, and if you are a "local" there is a 10% discount on your bill! :)

The food is prepared fresh, so delivery is a little slow, but well worth the wait! The buffalo brat and elk chili is absolutely amazing! For dessert, the chocolate decadence cannot be beat! The wait staff is friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. There are great historic pictures of Colorado Springs on the walls.

    1) The food here is DOPE. I used to only go for a drink and it turns out I was missing out. Think of all the food I could have eaten! It makes me sad to think about this missed opportunity. (My fave is the beef medallions, boyfriend likes the falafel sliders.) 2)The servers and bartenders are adorbs, always have a recommendation if you can't decide, and are super nice. 3) i heart karaoke. 4) it's less likely I'll be molested by some man-child, like I would downtown. (Downtown COS is FULL of these dudes! I feel safer without the scary meat market pushy dudes running around talking about gettin' swoll at the gym, letting their roid rage get all out of hand)

Nice little food place. Nothing exceptional about the restaurant itself. Service was fast and polite, and food was delicious. Beyond that there was nothing amazing as far as the entire experience went. The menu was a little short, but offered many heathy options; primarily sandwiches, burgers and salads.

  • Sheridan S.

Perhaps it was an off night, but our evening here was just meh. Overly salted sauces, unbalanced lettuce wraps (meaning the flavor, not the actual equilibrium of the wraps on the plate) and slow service. Seemed to be popular with the folks coming in to partake of the beer selection, but I was truly underwhelmed with my meal, as was my dinner companion. Location is great, atmosphere is cozy, pub-ish and colorado. We might try it again at some point, but it's not top on the list of future dinner spots.

We went last Saturday afternoon.. it was rainy and hailing, but there were several groups of people here. My husband ordered Brat w/ Elk chili - he said he liked it. The cole slaw that came with it he said he liked too. Although, after seeing the burgers go by to other tables - he wishes he had gotten one of those (they looked super good). I order the salmon with sundried tomatoes and rice w/ veggies. The salmon was EXCELLENT - grilled to perfection. Was moist and flaky. The sauce did not have sundried tomatoes. It was good though. - tomato flavor was good with chopped tomatoes, but not sundried. (just saying there is a difference between sundried and just tomatoes) Would I order it again? Definitely. We asked our server who was very pleasant and boy did she run back and forth... she booked it... what dessert we should take home... she suggested the Chocolate caramel.... oh my gosh - HEAVENLY. Really. If you don't LOVE chocolate this is not for you... but if you do, my oh my. Matter of fact, if I could just order the crust with the caramel sauce... it has an excellent flavor. Would definitely recommend a visit.

AMAZING elk chili! Best that I've had in a LONG time. I had the Cottage Pie, very good & my husband said that his buffalo burger was excellent. Waitress was very friendly. Got some bread pudding to go. Good prices & good food. They have karaoke tonight at 9, may be back for that.

All good things happening here. Stopped in for beer and an app. Happy hour has some great specials. We ordered the Mac n cheese and buffalo wings. Sauce had the right amount of spice. Mac n cheese was creamy and garlicy and so good!! Service was friendly and prompt. Totally recommend!!

Stopped by to watch some football, and was shocked how awesome this place is! Great deals on food and drinks and a cool unique atmosphere! The Elk chilli mac and cheese was AWESOME! Great place to grab lunch and kick back in Colorado city.

We went for dinner after a long day of moving so maybe we were too tired to appreciate it fully. The service was good, the menu seemed a little limited (at least I had a hard time picking something), but the beer Happy Hour special was appreciated by a few in the group. The pork dip sandwich was pretty tasty with a very unique sauce. We sat at a front table so didn't get to see much of the restaurant. It seemed like people wrote notes on the paper napkin rings and stuck them into the holes in the brick wall- that was kind of neat. It's in a great location in Old Colorado City.

Brandon the bartender is awesome! Super friendly and always come on Mondays to get the 3 dollar specials on drinks. Finally tried the food tonight and not disappointed at all! Yummy huge helping of Mac and cheese. Comfy spot on the west side of town to hang out :-)

Wonder how so many great reviews? Elk chili is thick w/way too much chili powder which dominates. Buffalo burger is small & just o.k. Kitchen very slow even late afternoon. Server though was very friendly & attentive.

3-star Review is for the food only. 2 families went out to eat after returning from a long day driving up Pikes Peak. All 9 people ordered something different. No one complained about the food. But it wasn't "to die for" either. Service was excellent: 5 stars.

Elk chili was awesome. As was the calamari, nachos, cottage pie and bangers&mash. Everyone in our group was super happy and full. Great prices and our service was very fast. Kareoke was popping upstairs and it made for great entertainment lol

Guys, I've got 12 check ins here and I've been there far more than that. For the love of god, stop doing so much damn karaoke!!! Can't you have some real local bands playing instead? 4 days of this crap per week is way too much and is causing me to look elsewhere to replace the GREAT food and a GREAT amount of beers on tap. Read my previous review to know how much I love everything else. I live 6 blocks away from here and it has so much potential but it's just wasting the immense amount of space and the prime location that they have to keep doing karaoke so often. I never even see that many people participating. What, like 15 people? Local shows! Venues are needed! I get that karaoke makes money, but shows do too! (cover charge + larger crowds) Here's to hoping for change to spice up the only real alternative to downtown ;) PS I was thinking of heading there tonight but you have karaoke and Front Range BBQ has bluegrass........ok, off the soapbox.

This is a local bar with good prices and pretty good food.I had what was really an exotic chili dog, buffalo hot dog with elk chili. Not my regular fare but I enjoyed it.The fellow traveler had a turkey wrap that was large and apparently good.Beer selection is decent.Prices are very good. The service was pleasant and efficient. It is located in an interesting part of Colorado Springs called , I think Old Colorado City. The area has a lot of stores and restaurants .Although it looks a bit recession shocked. You are very close to Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs.

Good elk chili, and the rest of the food is ok. Used to have at least three good Colorado micro brews on tap those have recently been switched out for cider and fruity beer. Still have laughing lab. If ur here to watch sports show up extra early to get one of the few seats at the bar. There are so many dangling lights you can't see many of the TVs from anywhere else. Staff always really nice. They have karaoke upstairs in the evenings. That's when the crowd changes from older west siders to a pretty interesting mix.....

There seems to be some confusion amongst yelpers about this place and what it is trying to be. A handful of reviewers mention they are going for a British or English pub atmosphere then rail them for missing the mark. This place is not trying to be English or British at all. Sure they offer fish and chips, but they also offer brats, schnitzel, hummus, and quesadillas. It's a Colorado themed pub, from the local beers to the buffalo and elk offered on the menu. The beer selection is great, one of the few bars in the area that offers a local craft lager on tap among the ales and IPAs. I had the buffalo burger topped with mushrooms, bacon and cheddar cheese and it was fantastic. If my hotel was closer to this place, I would have already tried most of the menu selections. The food is prepared well and at a very reasonable price. The staff are also super friendly and welcoming of random tourists like myself. This place is located in Old Colorado City which is a very cool neighborhood to visit. I prefer it over downtown, more of a local feel and less of a college / Army feel. If I can find the time I will definitely be back.

The food was great! HUGE portions - we got calamari as an appetizer between the three of us and it was most than enough. The waitresses were friendly and helpful and were always on hand. The wait for the food wasn't long at all and the quality was fantastic. The prices are very fair and the drinks specials are also really neat. Definitely worth a visit!

Best (high quality) bar food in the springs and did I mention their bloody mary's, oh my sweet goodness!! The only thing that bugs me about the place is when the cigarette smoke pummels into the upper bar from the deck, they should put a ventilation system in above the door or something.

We suddenly found ourselves starving after wandering around Garden of the Gods and headed into Old Colorado City, a.k.a. Colorado Springs downtown. I didn't know much about the area, but this pub type bar was actually spot on. Good, basic American pub food and friendly service. The lighting is dim and the atmosphere is pub chic rustic (if you will). We had burgers -- which were decent and harmless. Honestly, the best part is the back story on the name though. I'd tell people to go purely for this: Apparently, this area had 21 saloons back in the day. A seedy character bought two bull elks to pull his wagon and named them Thunder and Buttons. He was often in the company of a female "fixture in the red light district." The two of them went up and down the street causing trouble in the wagon often. So, it's a pub honoring a hooker and her crazy John. Does it get better?

Great spot for lunch in old Colorado city! I went there on a Saturday afternoon with my family. The chili was fabulous, a little sweet and a little spicy. I had the soup and salad deal and the salad was really good as well. (Make sure to say no BO if you don't like black olives :-)). My mom had a steak salad an said it was one of the best she's ever had. The steak came out perfectly cooked. Can't speak to the beer and dinner scene but def a great place to stop in for lunch!

I have been to Thunder and Buttons a couple times over the last 3 or 4 years. I was down in Colorado Springs yesterday for lunch. Looking for a great place to watch the Rockies game and get some food in Old Colorado City there are a few great choices and Thunder and Buttons is one of them. Sitting at the large wood trimmed bar you notice very quickly how many regulars there were on Sunday afternoons. I did manage to take the only open spot and was greeted promptly. I do wish the would have had volume on the Rockies game as everyone at the bar was watching and chatting about the game. Lunch=Schnitzel Sandwich ($8.95) "Breaded pork loin cutlet and monterey jack cheese on a bun with a horseradish cream sauce." as directly quoted from T7B's menu. BIG piece of hot and crispy pork loin pounded very thin.Much larger than the basic burger bun it is served on. French Bread would work much better in my opinion for this offering. Sandwich is served with thick-cut French Fries and the Horseradish Cream sauce. Overall- good and different. On previous visits I have had several other menu choices. Out of all the rest I would recommend their Buffalo Brat w/ Elk Chili ($7.95) Parking in Old Colorado City does get sparse on weekend nights. I do remember them having live bands and karaoke in the upstairs bar also.

This is a great little local place in Old Colorado City. The drinks are cheap and strong, and I heard rumors of a wonderful rooftop (unfortunately it was closed when I was there a few Sundays ago). Haven't had any of the food, but I did glance at the menu, and I thought the selection looked good. And really, how can you not love a place called Thunder and Buttons?!

I really enjoy the karaoke scene here but I have to admit that this is not one of my favorite places to hang in the Springs. The inside decor and overall ambiance is pretty typical of a bar. It seems really dark to me but that could play into the British pub theme they are going for. Drinks are priced fairly well although I can really only speak to the beers because I have yet to order a mixed drink here. The last time we came we ordered some appetizers to hold us over until dinner. We got the calamari which was pretty good. My only complaint would be having to watch my husband eat the tenticles! YUCK! We also got the nachos which are incredibly huge so be sure you have a whole group to share with if you are considering ordering! I knew from reading the menu that I probably wasn't going to like the nachos because they were topped with chili. There is something about putting chili on nachos that seems completely ridiculous to me. Just because there are beans and meat on nachos and beans and meat in chili does not mean that they can be interchangeable! Either way, on the plus side, it was their home-made elk chili. I imagine if it is in a bowl and not smothered on some torilla chips, that it tastes much better! Overall, we will probably be back but this has never been a place that we seek out and make a concious effort to come to.

My husband and I decided to stop by and have lunch at T&B. I'm really glad we finally did. We moved here last summer from San Diego, CA and haven't had a chance to really check out a lot of places. First of all, the food.....It was really good and well priced. I had the beef burgundy which was served over egg noodles and some garlic bread. Very tasty! I finished the whole thing :-) My husband had the chef's salad. It was HUGE. He maybe ate about 1/2 of it and had to bring the rest home. Our server was fantastic! Very attentive the whole time we were there. He gave us the scoop on the place. Apparently they have karaoke there I think Thur - Sat upstairs. Seems to draw in a pretty decent crowd. He said there's also dancing up there so we'll have to come back and check it out sometime. Really glad we got to try this place out. We will definitely be back!

This is one of my top 10 restaurants in the Springs. It has delicious food that is like bar food with a creative and refreshing twist. Food is also very high quality (e.g., a "side-salad" is very large with things like feta and roasted red peppers in it!). The atmosphere is laid back and fun yet has a historical old Colo City feel to it. Finally, the service is always excellent. Servers are friendly, fast and great at what they do. I have seen the owners working hard alongside the staff on several occasions. I will keep coming to this place forever!

Thunder and Buttons is a cool bar. We were in the upstairs part on a Saturday night and they had a cover band playing. It was entertaining and everyone was dancing and having fun. They have some food. We had the wings. They were good and realllly hot.

Nice little food place. Nothing exceptional about the restaurant itself. Service was fast and polite, and food was delicious. Beyond that there was nothing amazing as far as the entire experience went. The menu was a little short, but offered many heathy options; primarily sandwiches, burgers and salads.

Came here for lunch with my wife and daughter. Service was great. Food was excellent. We had the turkey sandwich and Mac n cheese with elk. Everything was really good. Everything is made fresh and from local products. I will be coming back again soon.

Amazing! The food was delicious. We have friends and family visit us often from around the country. Thunder and Buttons has officially been added to the places we must bring our visitors. I am always a little hesitant to try new places. I am so glad we did!!

This has been a local favorite for decades. The food is surprisingly good for a bar. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. It's a good place for lunch, dinner, or just a few drinks.

Good food and reasonable prices. The elk chili was great! This is a wonderful hometown bar/restaurant in the old part of Colorado Springs. The location itself should get five stars.

One of my favorite spots in the Springs, T&B in Old Colorado City has all the makings of the perfect casual bar. Food: Great menu! Everything from the hummus to the brat to the buffalo burger or portobella mushroom sandwich is delicious. Great seasoning on their steak fries. Drinks: Moderately priced but poured very generously. Service: I love the entire bar staff. Atmosphere: Restaurant feeling downstairs and a live music/karaoke venue up top...who could ask for anything more. Show up wearing a dress or your sweats & you'll fit it. This is one of the most random assortments of patrons you will ever see, be it a Sunday afternoon or a Friday night.

Ambiance: Quasi-British Pub / Dive Bar vibe. Downstairs are tables along with a decent sized bar. Upstairs is a bar with live music playing on weekend evenings. I was there on a Saturday around 8 (eating dinner downstairs), and could barely hear my dining partner over the noise of what sounded like nothing more than over an hour of someone tuning their guitar (if I have to sit through loud noise, some actual music would have been better). Otherwise, a comfortable venue. Service: We received very personable and efficient service. Really friendly waitress. She also helped us order, as we were stuck on several menu options. Food: I went with the bangers and mash, that were right up there with the ones I have had in my travels to the UK. Excellent beefy, brown gravy. My dining partner ordered the pot roast, which he really enjoyed, with the same delicious brown gravy (our server was right, when she said that people "rave" about the gravy.) We ended up splitting their wonderful carmel-sauce-laden bread pudding. Yummy! Dotted with delectable, sugar-roasted pecans (we were told that these pecans also make an appearance in one of their salads -- will have to check that out next time.) Overall, really good comfort food. Also, the price is very reasonable. We split a bottle of some very good house red wine, and got out of there fairly on the cheap side. I have been to Thunder and Buttons only a few times, but I am making a note to self to frequent this place more regularly.

Thunder & Buttons II in Old Colorado City is a great place to eat. We shared their steak salad which came with mixed greens, roasted peppers, artichoke hearts and a walnut vinaigrette, and also their beer-battered Fish & Chips. Yum! We enjoyed both immensely with some Kona Longboard Lager. My only complaint is the womens' restroom...the stall I was in had such huge gaps you'd be able to see whatever I was doing no problem. Is this on purpose, as some security measure??

The bar scene is fun. 2 totally different types of bars, 1st floor, and on the 2nd. Outdoor patio, and a few nice pool tables. Good service and friendly bartenders and server ;) we went for the vegetarian dishes, and we got there at 830, and they already stopped serving the full menu (which had the Veggie dishes on the full menu) so only a limited option for food at that time, but it was still good!!

Thunder and buttons is a great place to meet on a Wednesday night. Upstairs they have karaoke, quarter pitchers of pbr and a great scene to meet people around the foosball or pool table. I think it's only a three dollar cover and I've never seen an argument. The smoking section outside is always packed and the rest of the bar is usually pretty busy as well. If you're not across town at the porky's volleyball tournament, stop by.

Thunder and Buttons is a relatively nice restaurant and bar. The food is good and usually the service downstairs is excellent. However when you go upstairs one or two of the bartenders are probably the most obnoxious and rude bartenders I have ever seen. I have seen one bartender "L" actually tell people to F*** Off when they are simply asking for a drink. It is this type of attitude that makes me not go back.

I went here because yelp advertised it as an English Pub. It isn't For what it is it's great. Good beer selection, good drinks, laid back atmosphere, decent prices.... All the things you could want in a nice little neighborhood bar, provided you were not looking for an English Pub. I know its not fair for me to penalize them for expectations I had when I went in that they did not give me, but hell, life isn't fair.

Way better than Meadow Muffins! The menu is so fun it's like going to the carnival, not your typical pub fare. The staff is very nice and helpful. They have a good selection of beer and drink prices aren't bad either. The restrooms could use a facelift but other than that a pretty cool place to hang out in OCC (old Colorado City). Family friendly during the day and the night life is a lot of fun for the adults too! Tasteful and not to tacky! Keep up the good work T&B!!!!

Overall, really good comfort food. Also, the price is very reasonable. We split a bottle of some very good house red wine, and got out of there fairly on the cheap side. I have been to Thunder and Buttons only a few times, but I am making a note to self to frequent this place more regularly.

So good

3-star Review is for the food only. 2 families went out to eat after returning from a long day driving up Pikes Peak. All 9 people ordered something different. No one complained about the food. But it wasn't "to die for" either. Service was excellent: 5 stars.

Nice little food place. Nothing exceptional about the restaurant itself. Service was fast and polite, and food was delicious. Beyond that there was nothing amazing as far as the entire experience went. The menu was a little short, but offered many heathy options; primarily sandwiches, burgers and salads.

They've got a great selection of beer on tap, a good-sized menu without it being overwhelming, and karaoke going sometimes. I love finding excuses to come here when I'm in this part of town!
